Recycling Energy!

This week I was part of an exciting “round table” discussion on sustainability environmentally friendly business practices.   There was good information, but the most exciting part was that the host of this event was Energy Pioneer Solutions , a company that recently celebrated their second year in business.   They have grown, expanded and improved their company by surpassing milestones and raising awareness about what they do.   I won’t go into the details as I encourage that you visit their website, but what I want to share is the atmosphere of this company. I have visited the EPS headquarters several times in the last few months.   When I am at EPS, I feel excited and I can sense the positive energy that is all around.   Scott, Jennifer, Kris, Ryan and the rest of the team are all so happy and open to new ideas and approaches.   Together, this team has created a new business model that results in a win-win-win situation for their company, their custom...

Micromanager...small leader?

“He doesn’t trust me.” “I just don’t do it right or good enough, so why even try?  It's not my company.” “I will ask exactly how to do this, because she will make me redo it if I try it on my own.” “I better wait to ask, because the answer is always different.” “They must think I am so stupid and can’t do anything on my own.” These are some of the expressions of employees who unfortunately work with or for micromanagers.   Yes, it is true and I believe with E-Myth author, Michael Gerber http://www.e-myth.com/ that nobody will ever care as much about your business as you do.   However, I don’t think that it is impossible to have employees, contractors and business partners that are engaged and take a type of ownership in your company.   In fact, I encourage business owners to find a way to create a working environment filled with happy and effective people who are not afraid to lead.   When you do this you say to everyone including your customers that...

After the Gumdrops and Gingerbread...

Catching our breath after the holiday whirlwind can be tricky.   It seems that we are all programmed to be full of gingerbread spirit and have gumdrop attitudes while gift shopping for those that we love, are obligated to and for those whose names we drew in the family pool.   Now that January has arrived, it seems as though merchants have put away the gift wrap and are struggling with the dilemma of how to deal with the excess inventory or seasonal items that they must now deeply discount to move off the shelves.   As consumers, we are all waiting to see the balance statements on the credit cards and accumulating the pile of “return” items that we will be forced to deal with.   How can we carry some of that seasonal bliss beyond the Holidays?   Many of us are dealing with the harsh weather of the winter season that always seems to have more bite to it after the New Year.   We are back in the semester of school and classes and thinking about that daunting ...

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog.   I am the owner of Dynamic Concepts , a firm that specializes in working with enterprises to offer business training solutions that can lead to improved processes, increased sales and customer retention as well as team ownership and leadership.     I wanted to have an outlet to reach people who are interested in learning more and sharing best practices when it comes to business.   I am a professor of business and entrepreneurship teaching at a local college.   I have several degrees that qualify me; however my most valuable credentials are my experience.   I have been fortunate to work in many different industries and to have many different roles.   I tend to reflect on those experiences in my writing.   I believe we need to identify what we know and be willing to use those successes and failures as we reframe models and action strategies.   I think the greatest asset we have as business owners and professionals...
